As the weather grows (somewhat) cooler, out come the hot chocolates, herbal teas, and warm milky drinks to finish off our lunch hour with a sweet taste.

From spontaneous work meetings late in the afternoon to a morning retreat to meet deadlines and not miss breakfast, these five tearooms spread around Malta promise a warm welcome, friendly atmosphere and above all, enough tea to keep your inner anglophile satisfied.

This cosy tearoom tucked in Naxxar’s main square is known for delicious cakes, scones and afternoon teas fit for royalty. The dynamic staff go a step further by baking their own scones every morning, which they serve with their very own home-made jam! Flora’s also promise to tickle everyone’s taste buds by constantly updating their menu.

Carolina’s is every Austen fan’s little heaven. Floral designs will welcome you to this treasure trove of cakes and hot meals. You will not want to miss the café’s quirky little details and THAT chandelier. Your experience here will meet an extraordinary end when you leave your tips at the antique cash register. You will leave this Balzan gem wanting to pack it up and carry it around with you.

Those tea parties we used to read about in books when we were six? They call happened at Terryberry. This cookie and cupcake heaven up North serves anything from traditional local qassatat to good old-fashioned scones with clotted cream. Each customer will have tea served in a different tea pot, so what you will be drinking out of is just as unique as this quaint café.

Debbie’s Café

Also a top breakfast spot if you are up North and are making your way to Gozo for the day. Debbie’s is a cupcake mecca which promises fresh warm bakes every day. From red velvet to peanut butter banana, there’s a cupcake flavour for everyone at Debbie’s. It’s also perfect for a quick reading break if you are out exploring Malta’s villages and are looking to kick back for a few minutes (and congratulate yourself with a cheeky treat in the meantime).

One of Malta’s most in-demand hotels has long pleased patrons with its exceptional afternoon tea menu in the very heart of its bustling lobby. The Corinthia Palace’s afternoon tea is often your first impression of the hotel, as you will rarely walk in to check in and not spot a tower of scones and sandwiches being beautifully devoured.
If you’re up for extending your stay, you can enjoy a hearty supper at the Orange Grove itself, or head down a few metres to the Rickshaw restaurant for a trip to Asian cuisine heaven.
